UAS - Forum
The idea of integrating a "UAS Forum" into the Aeronautical Engineering Handbook arose from the need to network the cross-sectional topic of UAS in the LTH.
The topic is deliberately not integrated in the form of a separate working group, as the topic addresses a specific aeronautical platform implementation and represents its own specific aviation use case. In contrast, working groups in the LTH traditionally focus on their specific technology aspects independently of flying platforms or specific use cases, although these can of course occur there.
For this reason, many aspects of a UAS forum extend thematically into the existing various working groups, which is why a high level of networking with the existing working groups is envisaged. In this way, the UAS community will also be connected to the LTH working groups via a UAS forum. As the drone industry often does not have its roots in traditional aviation when it deals with smaller platforms, the UAS forum enables an introduction to LTH itself.
Against this background, the forum will focus in particular on those aspects relating to specific issues of unmanned flight that are not addressed in the other existing working groups. In particular, UAS-specific topics that require cross-sectional consideration will be addressed.
As a forum, it also serves the networking of the drone industry, in particular with demand drivers and users.

Guiding principles for involvement in the UAS forum
Involvement in the UAS Forum of the aeronautical engineering handbook (LTH)
- serves the networking within the UAS community between the repräsentatives of,
- aviation type examination
- aviation certification offices
- research institutions
- procurement bodies
- users - enables an exchange of experts on "best practice" procedures
- within the framework of existing legal framework
- for verification and qualification - informs about current aspects of the
- system design,
- component integration and
- flight operations as well as obtaining operating licences - bundles information on the possibilities of the current state of technology to users
- addresses the research and development needs of users in the context of unmanned systems and components to industry and research institutions
- helps users to open up further application potential,
Relevant results and information are permanently documented and made available to members.
Subject Areas
The forum is intended to cover all relevant subject areas in the context of unmanned systems. The subject areas will be systematically organised and continuously expanded.
- General basics
- Ground control station and operation
- Flight systems available on the market
- Flight controllers and other system components
- Flight management
- Payload
- System capabilities
- Flight operations and operating licence
Objectives
The following objectives are pursued
- Development and provision of "best practice" methods for the development, integration and operation of unmanned aerial systems
- Identification of the need for system capabilities
- Obtaining an overview of the technology on offer
- Identification of specific development needs
- Addressing current topics from research and development
- Dokumentation and Collection of information
